Sarcastic Fringehead, Fish That Will Open Widely Mouth When Threatened

Sarcastic Fringehead or Neoclinus Blanchardi is a fish that lives along the coast of California. Fish that have a patterned body and sometimes also have a wide variety of colors not only live in the sea, they also like to hide in mud, sand, or empty shells because they are predatory prey.

The Sarcastic Fringehead fish can also be found in a place full of trash where they will hide in cans or empty bottles at the bottom of the sea. Although the appearance of the fish was small, as it opened its mouth, the Sarcastic Fringehead turned into a hideous creature.

The creatures that live in the sea depths of about 3 to 73 meters have colorful mouths that can open up to 2 times the size of their heads. This enlarged mouth is commonly used to trap victims around this Sarcastic Fringehead.

The creature is also called a vampire fish because it usually attacks the prey and bites with a sharp fang in its mouth. In addition, researchers also believe that the large Sarcastic Fringehead's mouth is one of the mechanisms for defending from larger creature.

Although it looks creepy and aggressive, Sarcastic Fringeheads are not that big. It's body will only reach about 30 centimeters.

In terms of its lifespan, the Aquarium of Pacific estimates that Sarcastic Fringeheads can live for up to six years. Sarcastic Fringehead lives on the waters of the Pacific Ocean, off the coast of North America, from San Francisco to Baja California in Mexico.
